Usva Talks - Pride Edition - Zines

Discover the wonderful world of zines (short for 'magazine') in this Pride Edition of our Usva Talks! Our Usva Talks event in June focuses on the creation of zines in the queer community through an informative lecture and workshop by SPOUK!

Zines are created and self-published by individuals or groups that date back to the political pamphlets from the 1700s. These non-profit publications serve as a platform for artistic expression, community engagement, and amplifying marginalized voices. For this reason, zines have been particularly popular in feminist, punk, and queer circles that are generally anti-establishment or anti-capitalist.

Marieke Pras is an illustrator, a printmaker, and a designer. Under the name SPOUK, she creates zines, posters, and other print work in small runs. Their working method is a minimalist remix of various analog and digital media, often atmospheric but with a little spice. In addition to running a screen printing workshop and design practice, she gives regular workshops and organizes zine making nights.

During our Usva Talks, Marieke will bring the creation of zines to you! They will walk us through the history of zines and place in the queer community, after which you will get to make your own zine! We will provide the materials, but feel free to bring your own.

When? Thursday the 27th of June at 20.30 pm. Doors open at 20.00 pm.
Where? In the Usva Café, Munnekeholm 10.
